What is Lab2Market Discover?
L2M Discover is an innovative, early-stage program designed to inspire and guide individuals in exploring entrepreneurial pathways and research commercialization.
This Lab2Market Discover program is uniquely designed to address the systemic barriers faced by underrepresented groups in research commercialization. By offering EDIA-focused cohorts, we ensure that women, non-Binary individuals, and BIPOC researchers have the tailored support they need to succeed.

We believe that diversity drives innovation. By focusing on BIPOC, women-identifying, and non-binary researchers, we're not just opening doors – we're creating a new landscape of entrepreneurship that reflects the rich diversity of our society.
Gender Gap in Innovation: Women represent only 16% of Canadian inventors, highlighting a significant gender gap in innovation.
BIPOC Underrepresentation: BIPOC researchers face systemic barriers, including lack of access to funding, mentorship, and networks, which limit their participation in research commercialization.
Diversity Drives Innovation: Studies show that diverse teams are more innovative, with a 19% increase in revenue attributed to innovation compared to non-diverse teams.

Who should apply?
Lab2Market Discover is offered free of cost and is open to any early-stage academic entrepreneurs, current students and recent graduates in Canada pursuing research (Bachelors, Masters, Ph.D., and Postdoc).
Participants in the Lab2Market Discover program will not only gain valuable entrepreneurial skills but also contribute to the broader goal of making Canada’s innovation landscape more equitable and just. The program is an opportunity to be part of something bigger—advancing diversity in research commercialization and driving societal change.

Tailored Content: Real-life examples, expert speakers, and case studies specifically curated for each cohort's unique challenges and opportunities.
Experienced Facilitation: Sessions led by knowledgeable facilitators who address unique experiences and provide practical strategies for each group.
Practical Experience: Participants gain hands-on experience in market research, business planning, and commercialization strategies.
Inclusive Environment: While focused on BIPOC, women-identifying, and non-binary participants, allies are welcome to join and learn, fostering a deeper understanding of these groups' experiences.

Program Details
- Duration: 10 weeks
- Format: Free virtual program
- Commitment: 1-hour live virtual class + 2 hours of homework per week
- Schedule: Sessions every Wednesday starting October 2024
- Eligibility: Open to Undergraduate, Masters, PhDs, and Postdocs in STEM and Social Sciences, as well as other research-based fields
