Have an idea for an app but never thought you could actually build it?

Join SFU VentureLabs and Experience Ventures for a hands-on online hackathon where you’ll work in an interdisciplinary team to turn an idea into a working app using AI while receiving $350 honorarium for your participation. 

You’ll take a business idea from concept to a commercial-ready app using Softmax Data‘s industry-grade AI tools, with security, privacy and compliance already built into the development process.

This isn’t just a class project. You’ll experience what it’s like to work with a team, build out a ready-to-use application and pitch your solution to industry experts.

No coding experience required. Bring your ideas, creativity and problem-solving skills. We’ll bring the technology, challenge and team.

How it works

1. Learn
Kick off Webinar: Privacy, Compliance & Softmax Data – Nov 5th

Kick things off with a session on privacy and compliance, followed by an introduction to the challenge and the tools you’ll be using.

2. Build
Plan, Meet, & Build With Your Teammates – Nov-9th

You’ll be grouped into an interdisciplinary team and given a real-world use case. Over the next few days, your team will turn an idea into a working AI-powered solution using Softmax Data’s platform.

3. Pitch
Final Presentation & Judging Webinar

Present your solution to industry experts and judges. Show what you built, the problem it solves and where you could take it next.

Eligibility:

Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. 

Any student from any discipline and faculty registered in a Canadian college and university who is:

• A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
• Enrolled in any full- or part-time program of post-secondary study.

Note: You do not need to be an SFU student to apply.
