Katie Ruddell – Founder, Kokomo Food Group
Katie Ruddell is the owner and founder of the sunshine inspired café group, Kokomo Foods. Before opening the doors to Kokomo’s first location in 2017, Katie spent over 10 years working in marketing and brand strategy in Vancouver. Katie’s relationship with fresh, nourishing food is the result of a lifetime of living and travelling abroad. She became inspired by the accessibility of plant-focused food and how it brought people together, especially when paired with the sun. Years later, Katie left her dream job at lululemon to pursue her five year goal of creating that very thing for her own community. Now with three Kokomo locations, Katie serves as a goal coach to new entrepreneurs, while continuing to build the Kokomo community across Canada (stay tuned for the next Kokomo location!).
Lilian Umurungi-Jung – Founder, Mumgry
Lilian Umurungi-Jung is the owner and founder of MUMGRY, a handcrafted, ethically sourced plant-based snack company.
With roots stretching from Rwanda to Vancouver, Lilian always knew she wanted to be an entrepreneur. Her varied professional experiences include leading grassroots fundraising and community events for a health and human rights foundation in Toronto, as well as human resources work for an international game developer. A few months into her pregnancy, Lilian decided it was time to finally explore her dream of entrepreneurship.
The idea for MUMGRY was born while she wandered the aisles of the grocery store looking for a nutritious and tasty snack and discovered a need to simplify eating for two. With an appetite and a strong craving for peanut butter, Lilian began “snack prepping” three weeks postpartum to find something that would keep her nourished and energized. With the last of her severance pay and some delicious experimentation, MUMGRY launched in fall of 2019.
Today, MUMGRY offers three natural nut butters in smooth peanut butter, dark chocolate peanut butter and pistachio chocolate almond butter varieties.
Lilian also hosts the MUMGRY Podcast with her high school best friend, Isabelle, where they have fun and thought-provoking conversations to inspire and inform the MUMGRY community.
