Colin McWhinnie
Sales is the most critical and foundational business skill for entrepreneurs, yet it remains the most challenging for many to master. Colin started Canada Start Up in 2005 to help business leaders and entrepreneurs build and grow their companies through practical sales consulting and test-driven sales programs. Since then he has worked with hundreds of early-stage and growth companies in industries ranging from B2B/B2C SaaS , Robotics, MedTech, Fintech, IoT, Assistive Technologies, and Internet Security. He has been a featured mentor with Volition Advisors, ERIN, SFU Innovation Lab, the BCIT Venture Program, and the Langara Entrepreneurial Training program, and a featured keynote speaker across North America, including the MIT Venture forum in Seattle.
Colin also owns and operates SalesXperts since 1997, executing B2B sales programs for companies in the Technology, Manufacturing and Financial sectors. His clients have ranged from large organizations such as Oracle, Bell, and Vancity Credit Union, to over 200 small to mid-size businesses at all stages of their business lifecycle.
Chris Stairs
Chris has 20+ years experience in strategic sales and operational start-ups, and has helped organizations position for market entry and streamline execution. A senior associate of CanadaStartUp.com, Chris supports ventures across a broad range of sectors including construction management software, e-learning, fintech, workplace hygiene, therapeutic apparel, industrial automation, event technologies, and anti-counterfeit authentication platforms. He is a mentor at SFU VentureConnection, SFU VentureLabs, and a finance advisor for Volition Advisors. Also a part-time instructor at SFU, BCIT, and Tamwood Global Startup School, Chris is a strong advocate of continued learning, and devotes his spare energies towards providing practical, no-nonsense training to young professionals and entrepreneurs who need easily compressed, essential lessons in a regularly changing business landscape.
Prior to his work in the venture space, Chris began his career in sports marketing and tourism-hospitality, working for such global brands as the NBA, Olympics, FIFA, and Vancouver Aquarium.
Colin and Chris recently co-founded the new Sales PrimerTM (www.salesprimer.ca) planning system and web-application to help startups discover the fastest, most practical way to design and launch their sales and marketing function.
