A Net-Zero Future: How EdgeTunePower is Revolutionizing Electric Grid Management

Amidst the growing concerns over our environment and greenhouse gas emissions, the world is transitioning towards renewable energy sources, striving for a net-zero future. Industries such as transportation, mining, agriculture, shipping, and marine are embracing electrification as a key solution.

However, many electrical grids are centralized, outdated, and ill-equipped for large-scale interconnection and distributed energy resources (DERs) operation, including renewables and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Consequently, the electric grid does not represent the required capacity and required infrastructure for meeting the ambitious net-zero goals.

The alternative would be distributed, utility-scale energy-storage technologies, like lithium-ion battery containers, hydrogen-based storage systems, and supercapacitors. However, these storage units are non-intelligence and require powerful grid management systems.

A Time for Change

At the moment, we are facing unreliable and vulnerable electric grid management systems that are reactive to grid outages, highly centralized, and time-consuming, resulting in energy inequity in remote areas, and limited EV charging stations. Therefore, enhancing the grid in a costly and timely manner requires the development of new transmission lines.

Introducing EdgeTunePower

In response to this pressing issue, Arman Ghasaei, CTO and Founder of EdgeTunePower Inc. (ETP), steps in to address this issue and meet the goals of a net-zero future. After completing his Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Toronto, Arman combined his passion for entrepreneurship in the electrical industry and founded EdgeTunePower in March 2021.

EdgeTunePower is offering a patented electric grid management system, offering an embedded (HW-SW), Ultra-Fast Grid Distributed Management System (UF-GDMS) for real-time operation at the power-distribution level, offering control, and protection of various types of DERs, including energy-storage technologies, renewable energies, and fast EV-charging stations.

Key features include a distributed management system that detects accidental events on the grid within milliseconds, and provides a proactive decision-making algorithm to mitigate and prevent grid accidents.

A Leader in Electric Grid Management

Arman’s forward-thinking vision for EdgeTunePower is nothing short of revolutionary. With a clear focus on leading the electrification industry, ETP is offering cutting-edge power system solutions that are both faster and smarter. At the core of ETP’s mission is a commitment to revolutionize grid management and drive electrification across various industries.

Through the implementation of advanced grid management systems, the company’s vision is to be a leader in faster and smarter power system solutions, providing decentralized, digitalized, and decarbonized electric grids of the future. With no direct competitors in sight, EdgeTunePower stands out as an industry innovator, ready to shape the future of sustainable energy.

Entrepreneurial Advice from Arman

A piece of advice from Arman is to stay humble and continue research and development to ensure continuous improvement. For aspiring entrepreneurs, Arman stresses the importance of pursuing entrepreneurship out of genuine passion rather than monetary incentives. He acknowledges the challenges faced along the entrepreneurial journey, from operational intricacies to legal and financial hurdles. Nevertheless, Arman’s determination and commitment to improvement have propelled ETP forward.

Growth and Success

Based in North Vancouver, EdgeTunePower has thrived for nearly three years. Within this short span, the company collaborated with utilities and technology companies, mainly in North America.

ETP’s flagship project is called West-5, where ETP is helping London Hydro interconnect a high-power and high-energy storage system to residential and commercial buildings in London, Ontario, creating Canada’s first net-zero energy community. The project has received over $ 5M in funding from Natural Resource Canada (NRCan). Moreover, EdgeTunePower has gained attention from companies like BC Hydro and Fortis BC, expanding its traction in British Columbia and showcasing its remarkable achievements in the field.
