ClearwayLaw: Revolutionizing Legal Access with Innovation
ClearwayLaw has bridged the gap between individuals and lawyers with technology innovation at its core. Founded by Alistair Vigier, ClearwayLaw is reshaping the way people navigate the complex legal system in Canada and the United States.
A Journey of Innovation
Alistair Vigier, CEO of ClearwayLaw, brings a unique perspective to the legal field. His journey spans from serving in the military for seven years to law school and business development, and eventually to founding ClearwayLaw with support from Rian Gauvreau, one of the founders of Clio, combined with his dissatisfaction with the lack of innovation in the legal world, led him to focus on using technology to enhance legal access.
Addressing the “Access to Justice” Problem
ClearwayLaw’s mission revolves around tackling the accessibility problem prevalent in various legal systems. While cost is often cited as a barrier, Alistair described how the problem ran deeper. With a large number of individuals entering the legal system without legal representation, ClearwayLaw aims to provide them with information. By offering details into legal options and service providers, ClearwayLaw aims to improve access to legal services.
Innovative Solutions
Central to ClearwayLaw’s solutions is a platform that collects information from various sources such as LinkedIn, law firm bios, and legal databases. With 500+ reviews left for lawyers every month, 200,000 people using the website each month, and the use of algorithms, ClearwayLaw provides users with all the information they need to make their own informed legal decisions, catering to various needs and budgets.
The platform is constantly evolving, with plans to incorporate AI features that streamline the lawyer-client matchmaking process. The companies first product is called “Clearway Time,” and it will make the consultation booking process much more smooth for law firms. Lawyers will no longer need to waste half their day in consultations with people that would never retain them. Further, the software will make it much easier for law firms to track and receive referrals to other lawyers.
ClearwayLaw will also soon go live with a “know your client” SaaS product for law firms, which will use AI to scan the internet and find red flags about potential clients prior to the consultation being booked.
ClearwayLaw also plans to go live with other AI enhanced legal SaaS products in the next few years.
The Audience
ClearwayLaw targets two sides of their marketplace, aiding both individuals seeking legal assistance and small to medium-sized law firms. By helping to connect clients with the right legal professionals, ClearwayLaw bridges the gap between supply and demand in the legal services market.
The company’s future SaaS product targets larger law firms, offering pre-consultation software that helps save time in the client intake processes. ClearwayLaw uses their marketplace to promote their SaaS products. The marketplace is mostly non-monetized, and is part of giving back to the community.
Challenges and Opportunities
Building ClearwayLaw hasn’t been without its obstacles, particularly in terms of funding and managing market expectations. Alistair acknowledges the financial challenges present in scaling a marketplace business. It can easily require $5 million dollars to build a property marketplace. However, with a clear vision and a focus on innovation, ClearwayLaw is ready to capitalize on the vast opportunities presented by its first SaaS product.
Advice for Entrepreneurs
Drawing from his entrepreneurial journey, Alistair Vigier emphasizes the importance of seeking guidance from experienced mentors and leveraging existing networks. He highlights the value of strategic partnerships in navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship, urging aspiring founders to find their own unique advantage.
Alistair Vigier gave a shout-out to a few of his mentors: Rian Gauvreau, Jon Johnson, Jim Derbyshire, and Floyd Sijmons.
Looking Ahead
As ClearwayLaw continues to evolve, its commitment to simplifying legal access remains strong. With a focus on empowering individuals with legal knowledge and facilitating connections between clients and lawyers, ClearwayLaw is poised to shape the future of legal services in Canada and the United States.
