SFU VentureLabs Receives Federal Funding to Launch New Deeptech Accelerator

Vancouver, BC, Jan 31 2025 — SFU VentureLabs is thrilled to announce it has been awarded $2.5 million in funding over three years from PacifiCan through the Business Acceleration Pilot (BizAP), which is a new initiative investing in organizations capable of helping high-growth-potential businesses achieve their scale up ambitions.

With this funding, VentureLabs is launching a new program, PeraGo, designed to help deeptech companies in B.C. as they transition from early-growth stages, from seed to Series A. The program was specifically tailored to address the unique needs and challenges faced by deeptech and life sciences ventures. PeraGo will focus on driving both business growth and technology development to attract customers, partners, and investors.

"The PacifiCan funding is vital in advancing our mission to support the next wave of science-driven innovators in B.C. who are addressing global challenges. With BizAP's support, we're helping science-based startups in the province achieve commercial success and contribute to the global innovation landscape," said Dr. Lesley Esford, Executive Director, SFU VentureLabs.

"This funding also strengthens the innovation ecosystem in British Columbia while enabling companies to make a meaningful global impact," Esford added.

“Through tailored programs like the Business Acceleration Pilot, PacifiCan is serving the unique needs of British Columbian entrepreneurs so that they can turn their ambition into reality,” said the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan). “By partnering with organizations such as SFU VentureLabs, PacifiCan is helping B.C. businesses grow here at home and compete on a global stage.”

PeraGo is now inviting high-potential startups to join the program’s waitlist. Interested startups are invited to visit the website for more information.
